Health Care Reform Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Health Care Reform - Essay Example Attorneys representing the state of Missouri allege that 71.4% of voters in this state are not in support of this act. Among dissatisfied voters are the elderly individuals receiving medicare. Under current laws excluding the passage of the Health Care Art elderly individuals qualify for specialized programs due to their age. The Health Care Act will eliminate many of these programs leaving seniors to pay large amounts for health care services. Virginia attorneys in a separate lawsuit claim the Health Care Act requires individuals to purchase health insurance coverage or pay additional premiums. With the choice left between paying additional premiums and elderly individuals forced to compensate for medicare benefits/programs lost many individuals are wondering how they are going to survive financially. According to Glover(2010), "A woman told Lauer she has to make a decision each month on whether to make the house payment or prescription drugs. "We shouldn't have to have those situat ions going," she said" (pp. 16). Under the new reformation of this act individuals that do not purchase health insurance will be required to pay an annual penalty of $695.00 leaving many individuals frustrated. However frustrations extend beyond these two states. Separate lawsuits have been filed in twenty-one states alleging constitutional rights are in violation.

Partnership like relationships exists between consumers and suppliers Essay

Partnership like relationships exists between consumers and suppliers and provides advantages such as greater quality - Essay Example Theoretical frameworks exist in abundant supply that try to delineate the advantages of close cooperation between partners in supply chain mechanisms. In practice however things are far more different as the specific attributes of such working relationships are not fully understood (Goffin, 2006). Overall there has been a move towards close cooperation based relationships though the actual realised benefits of such relationships is not fully established and is generally overestimated. The range of relationships between various entities in the supply chain domain varies from transactional type relationships to close and more collaborative relationships. Another issue of importance that needs clarification is the use of the term â€Å"partnership† that has been used to describe such relationships though there is no legal or other justification for using such a term. The use of the term â€Å"partnership† has caused confusion in respect of these relationships on a number o f fronts though three major reasons are more significant. These reasons are: Customer / supplier relationships are purely business relationships though they may be described as partnerships. However the use of the term does not indicate any legal privileges are inferred as in the case of a business partnership or alliance. This clearly demonstrates that customer / supplier partnerships do not carry any legal value and are instead purely voluntary in nature; Any partnership like relationships between supply chain entities are not absolute but are rather context dependent. The extent of closeness of the subject relationship determines the variations in such relationships and previous research supports such contentions (Ellram, 1991) (Saxton, 1997). It can be inferred from this that the particular degree of closeness in a relationship provides the necessary insight to explore such relationships although the degree of closeness is not absolute; Relationships based on the partnership mod el alone cannot attempt to explain the supplier side of relationships fully although this is universally assumed as such (Goffin, 2006). A large amount of material exists on the value of close customer and supplier relationships although this is not relevant to the issue at hand. Instead this text will focus more on why such close relationships are not performing as desired or expected using three different approaches. These approaches include: assessing the appropriateness of close relationships between customers and suppliers; creation of and sustainability of close relationships between customers and suppliers; contextual nature of close relationships between customers and suppliers. 1. Appropriateness The majority of literature on relationships between suppliers and customers has implied that close relationships are desirable though such literature has failed to provide due consideration to any contextual causes or to the effectiveness of such relationships. As an example a larg e amount of literature has concentrated on implying that manufacturers and their suppliers should have close relationships and have indicated that these relationships have evolved into partnerships over the last two decades. However such literature has failed to account for a few transactional relationships that not only exist but are also desirable. Similarly there has been talk of evolution of such relations

Investigate whether Financial Conservative Policies Depend on Dissertation

Investigate whether Financial Conservative Policies Depend on Financial Distress - Dissertation Example New York, USA: McGraw-Hill. 23 Gravetter, F. J. & Wallnau, L. B. (2009) Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. USA: Cengage. 23 Healey, J. F. (2009) The Essentials of Statistics: A Tool for Social Research. USA: Cengage. 23 A. Appendix 25 Abstract Financial conservatism is one of the most important reflectors of the financial state of a company. Ordinarily, such an attitude is adopted by companies which are either in financial distress or operate in a rather risky environment. Financial conservatism could be decomposed into cash conservatism and leverage conservatism each of which are again decided after taking into consideration a number of parameters. There typically is a debate about the degree of accuracy with which a financially distressed company is found to adopt financially conservative policies. The present paper takes up this subject and attempts to empirically analyze the same on the basis of around 950 USA firms, with data collected between 1998 and 2006. A panel data lo git regression model had been set up firstly to assess cash conservatism, then leverage conservatism and finally financial conservatism. ... These policies typically, reflect an environment where the companies are endowed with large cash balances and low leverage. While high cash balance indicates the presence of huge fund reserves to the company while, low leveraged financial structure implies that the concerned firm prefers turning towards equity financing over debt financing when they need funds for investment. However, maintaining such a stance might not necessarily mean that the concerned company is operating in a financially distressful environment. When firms find it difficult to meet their financial obligations to their creditors or fail to meet the same, they are considered as traversing through a phase of financial distress. But, financial conservatism might not imply that the firm in question is in a distressful phase of time; it might even mean that the entity is trying to shield itself against too much openness, which could land it up in a mess. However, one important factor which could be cited at this point is that financially conservative policies are highly transitory in nature. The present paper is targeted towards an examination of the extent to which financial conservatism is a suitable reflector of whether the company in question is literally amidst financially distressful phase or not. 1.1 Research Aims and Objectives The present paper attempts to assess whether firms which maintain a financially conservative policy are actually victims of financial distress or not. There is a high possibility of detecting a company’s financial situation through examining its financial policies. Empirically it had been found that in situations where a particular company is found to align to financially conservative policies over a considerable period of time, it generates some useful

The Progress Report Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Progress Report - Assignment Example Chinese Restaurants are facing direct and indirect competition. So, in order to stay and remain competitive in the market Chinese Restaurants should work on increasing the awareness of their products. In the case of Chopsticks Express, this restaurant is targeting only the small amount of Chinese consumers, who are the students of the State College. My efforts would be to make awareness of the Chinese foods in the market along with highlighting how the local customers could be attracted towards Chinese foods. The role of supervisor has been important for this project and I have been guided by my supervisor throughout the project and this has helped in improving the quality. I have been incorporating the feedback of the supervisor and will continue doing so. After receiving further feedback, the research would continue its steps for the submission of its final draft of proposal. Work Completed I have received the approval and feedback from my instructor about my research. The feedback included instructions of carrying out my research and his instructions have been helpful in improving the work. I have identified that Chinese restaurants are facing some direct competition from the other Asian and American restaurants. The draft proposal of the project was due from 10th June and after modifying my research according to the feedback received I submitted my final proposal in the third week of June with my final topic of Research Information of Chinese Restaurants in State College. My research included analysis of different Chinese restaurants. 13 Asian and 8 Chinese restaurants are located in State College Downtown. Among the Chinese restaurants, Chopsticks Express offers the authentic cuisine of Chinese. Chopsticks express, situated in the center of the state downtown, enjoys the advantage that it could attract more customers apart from the local Chinese customers. I have identified the reason why the restaurant has not been highly successful and the reason is that it does not influence other customers of the region. I figured out that majority of the people do not visit Chopsticks Express because of its unpopularity. When I have researched on it further, I identified the reasons why no one would want to visit a restaurant which does not have a welcoming environment. In the ending days of June I was supposed to work on the demographic part. Demography included the study of population and size. The study included sample size of 800 customers who received questionnaires; these 800 people were those who belonged not only to the area of downtown but also those who visit downtown. The questionnaire was also provided for the managers of the Chinese restaurants operating in the State college downtown. Information and awareness play an important role in marketing of the restaurant. The responses suggested that awareness of Chinese food in US was relatively low and only local customers like Chinese students preferred Chinese cuisine in US. For determi ning the possible solutions for the Chinese restaurants to attract larger number of customers I submitted my recommendations on 30th June. Work to be completed Through this questionnaire I will try to identify the tastes and preferences of the people.I will also appoint interviews with the managers of the Chinese restaurants where I will ask questions related to my study. I want to help Chinese
